My name is Katya Pyatkova and I am studying a PhD in the College of Engineering, Maths and Physical Sciences in University of Exeter. My PhD topic is closely related to PEARL and I am looking forward to contribute to the project.
I graduated Erasmus Mundus Master in Flood Risk Management with a leading university UNESCO-IHE. This incredible programme gave me the opportunity to live and study in 5 different countries about local water management strategies and decisions.
My MSc thesis topic was about climate change impacts on flooding using ensemble of modelling approach on catchment scale in Denmark. I was lucky to spend 6 months in DHI headquarters.
Within the project PEARL, my main tasks will be undertaking research in the field of flood damages estimation. The assessment will be carried on for both tangible and intangible losses with a focus on traffic disruption and public health. I am very inspired by the research already undertaken in that area in Exeter and I am motivated to develop it further.
Currently I live in Exeter and I am still exploring its natural surroundings and wonders. My husband and myself are very keen on rock-climbing, skiing and mountaineering.
